Frédéric Chopin wrote his Impromptu no. 1 in A flat major, Op. 29, in 1837. It was published that same year, dedicated A Mlle. la Comtesse de Lobau. It has been referenced in popular culture several times, notable in George Du Maurier's novel Trilby.
